   The Clubman: 1969-1980

The Clubman was the biggest visual change to the Mini ever. Even now, you either love it or hate it, but there is no denying that it is a Mini.

In 1969, the Clubman saloon and Estate are introduced. They have restyled noses, interior and 998cc engines. The 1275GT is released at this time also, and uses a single carb 1275cc engine producing 59bhp. The 1275GT is seen as a replacement for the Cooper, so gets 10" alloy wheels and "S" brakes.

In 1971 the hydrolastic suspension system was replaced by the 'dry' cone system on the Clubman saloon and 1275GT. The 1275GT gains 12" wheels and bigger 8.4" discs.

In 1973 the magic wand gearshift is changed to rod change on all models.

In 1975, Clubman saloons get a 1098cc engine as standard (but not for automatics).

In 1980, all Clubman variants are dropped. Over 330,000 Clubman saloons, 176,000 Clubman estates, and 117,000 1275GTs were produced.
