Fluffiefaerie's Mini Project

Welding Continued

Pictures Provided by sssstew

All going reasonably well, this is day 3 and 4 all grouped into one as i forgot the camera last week.  My welder friend has had a fire in his house so progress has slowed down a little but there no real rush so its fine.

As you can see from the shock absorber below this was simply taped up with black electrical tape! terrible.  Anyway a replace set of shocks will be sourced.

The new air vent panel makes up the inside of the arch as well as cover up the end of the sill which is good and will save us some time.  We spent a lot of time aligning the hinge panel and getting that welded on right, with the door coming on and off to check, will be worth it in the end though.  In the end we found that the small hinge panel replaced the flat surface that the old hinges were welded to, this moved the panels in enough to line up with the wing and door.

The hinge panel and new air vent panel didnt quite line up perfect, the holes for the hinges were in a different place on the air vent panel, so i just filed them out to line up with the welded in hinge panel.  And amazingly the air vent panel fits the existing arch perfectly so this can be simply welded straight in, obviously the top will be a bit of a pain to weld though, and also we are going to cut some patches to make up the rest of the air vent panel (the back corner) and also the top corner of the inside of the bonnet.

On Sunday, emma cleaned back and painted the cherry bomb that Matt Pink gave us (muchus thank you) its being repainted in Satin Sheen Hammerite black, as the red would clash with the final pink colour of the car.

Cherry Bomb is turning into a Black Cherry Bomb!

Hinge Panel tacked on
There was some filler here so i sanded back to check and it was only smoothing rust, phew!

The shock absorber, very tired and needs replacing

Cleaned out sills, nice and dry, will be stuffed with waxoyl after work

The rear suspension top (fixed)
