£40 for a complete Minivan. Seems like a good deal, doesn't it? That's precisely how much this Minivan cost. Originally Navy blue, with rusty floors and wings, and a knocking engine, the Minivan still made a great purchase. With now flawless bodywork and a nice re-spray in BMW Dakar Yellow, Ian Anderson's Minivan has come along way.

The original 850 was ditched in favour of an '89 Metro 1275, mated to a Playmini exhaust. Once you give a Mini that much power, the ability to stop is a must, and drums certainly aren't up to the job. 8.4" Metro Discs, EBC Greenstuff pads and braided hoses are, however, brilliant at stopping.

Before and After

Usually spartan and functional, the interior of this Mini has been treated to Recaro recliners, fully carpeted load bay, and painted dash. With a serious Ice Install comprising of a Pioneer DEPH 7100 Head-unit, Pioneer Component Speakers in the doors, Pioneer 6x9s, a Legacy 400w amp and a Pioneer 12 inch sub, its definitely a pleasure to travel in.

The Mini has always been noted for its fine handling, so very little has been done to the suspension, with Hi-los being the only upgrade. Sportspack arches and 7x13" Superlites give this van a modern look, but without looking out of place. They blend in with the look of the car perfectly.

The 1275 motor blew recently, so it has been replaced with a 998 for the time being. Ian, being the logical man he is, is using the rebuild to bore the engine +40 and mate it to a special crank to achieve a 1340cc displacement. Other planned mods for the engine include a Stage 3 head, 1.5 Full Roler Rockers, fast road/rally Kent cam, Metro Turbo Conrods, powermax pistons, lightened + balanced flywheel, and twin 1 3/4 carbs to hopefully achieve a reliable 90bhp. Giving a rather tasty 145bhp/tonne!

Recently, the front grille has been cut out and replaced with a late Mini grille. More recently however, a collision with a boulder in a car park has left Ian with a rather sorry looking Mini. Repaired by Keltix, its back in good health and ready for the 1340 rebuild to commence. Once dropped in, this Mini will be a serious contender for all the boxes out there.

Ian's van was sadly written off in November 2003, by a volvo who crashed into the back of it at a roundabout. Ian has made sure that it is to be bought by Downton and restored to better than it's former glory!
