The DVD & Soundtrack
"Norra lotta people know that"
- The prison used in the film is actually Kilmanim Jail in Dublin, Ireland. Noel Coward got 25000 for 10 days filming here. It was his last film appearance.
- The sewer the Minis race through is actually the Birmingham-Coventry Tithebarn Main Sewer, which was under construction at the time. Remy Julienne attempted to do a full 360 of the tunnel, but failed. The first time, the car fell on its roof, the second time, it skidded on algae and the third time, it hit a lip at the top of the tunnel which wrecked the suspension. In some of the shots if you look closely you can see that there is only one person in the cars going through the sewer. Remy Julienne did all of the driving stunt work.
- Much of the other stunt-work was done by Frank Maher.
- The Lettering on the side of the coach says "Croker Coach Tours".
- Milan was originally the location for the Italian Job, but Turin seemed far more accessible.
- The building that the Minis drive up is the Turin Aircraft Museum. The permission for this stunt was given due to a mis-translation, the italian for car and camera is the same, so when they saw the Minis up there, it must have been a surprise!!
- Michael Caine did not learn to drive until the mid-eighties - maybe that's why we dont see him in the driving seat in the film!
- Michael Caine's real name is Maurice Micklewhite.
- Michael Caine's younger brother Stanley makes an appearence in the film as "Coco".
- Michael Caine has written two books entitled "Not Many People Know This!", full of fascinating and obscure facts.
- The racetrack the cooper end up is the Fiat test track on top of the infamous Fiat Factory.
- The church steps the Minis drive down are right in front of the weir, that they later drive through. This is just one of the small mistakes in the film. The church originally had iron fences at the bottom, but they must have been removed for filming.
- When Remp Julienne was about to perform the infamous 3-Mini jump, the Fiat employees all came and said goodbye to him as they thought that he was going to die. Remy calculated that the Minis would have to hit the ramp at 50mph to do the jump.
- A missing scene, which is on the DVD, was never put in the film mainly due to the fact that it broke the tension of the chase. In this scene, the coopers waltz with the Italian Police on an Ice-rink!
