   The Moke: 1964-1981

The Moke is definately the most unusual production varient of the Mini. They are quite desirable these days and are very popular in Australia

The Uk moke - 850cc

January 1964: Production of Austin Mini Moke begins.
June 1964: Production of Morris Mini Moke begins.
August 1964: Austin and Morris Mini Moke are available in Britain costing £405.
October 1968: Production of both versions of the Mini Moke ceases at Longbridge.
Total production:
Austin Mini Moke: 5,422;
Morris Mini Moke: 9,096.
Total: 14,518.

 

The Australian moke - 998cc,1098cc,1275cc

February 1966: Morris Mini Moke first launched in Australia with 998cc engine costing $1,295.
1968: 13in wheels first offered. Name changed to BMC Mini Moke.
April 1969: Mk2 Moke arrived: 1,098cc and 13in wheels become standard.
1970: Name changed to BMC Moke.
December 1971: Moke Californian launched with 1,275cc engine.
April 1972: Name changed to Leyland Moke.
1973: 1,275cc and Californian engine dropped.
December 1974: Moke Utility (pick-up) launched.
May 1975: Mokes lose the 1098cc engine. Only one option now: the 998cc.
September 1977: Uprated Moke Californian launched with 998cc engine and uprated equipment.
November 1979: Moke revamped with zinc galvanized body. Mokes also available with 1,275cc engine.
November 1981: Moke production ceased in Australia.
Total production: 26,142.
