Mini Se7en and Miglia history

Originally started in 1966, as Formula Mini 7, it was designed as a low budget racing series. Using restricted tuning 850cc engines & control tyres, it became popular. In 1970, Formula Mini 7 became Mini Se7en, and Mini Miglias were introduced with 1000cc, twin choke, more tuning scope, wide slick tyres. It was for the experienced saloon racer, or Mini Se7en driver wanting to advance to something more challenging.

In 1976, they became Mini 850 and Mini 1000, and a series for 1275 GT's which lasted five seasons started. When the 850cc engine ceased production in the early 80's, replacement parts became harder to source. The engines were highly stressed, so they decided to adopt milder tuned 1000cc engines in 1991, which would be more durable, and also cleaner as they used unleaded fuel. In 1994, Mini Miglias began to use 1293cc engines.

An extremely popular series, always over subscribed, Mini Se7en racing always produces close competitive racing. A single choke carb, Rover pistons and MG Metro camshafts allow these 1000cc engines to rev to 9700rpm and produce 95bhp at the flywheel. With a manditory weight limit of 555 kgs, this gives extremely good bhp/tonne figure of 171bhp/tonne, and means you reach 60mph in less than 5seconds. These regulations mean that the budget cars can keep in relatively even competition with the top cars.
